The countdown to the Ultimate KGV Reunion Down-Under 2001 is well under way with just eight months to go and, knowing how time flies, March will be here before we know it.
Response to our first newsletter has been very positive and encouraging.
Apart from our committee members, those who have sent in Registration
forms and deposits at time of preparation of this newsletter are :
Rosalie (Bunton) & Rob Davies (Sydney)
Helen (Taylor) & James Clements
Louise (Diespecker) & Bill Lee (USA)
Sid Fattedad & Sandra (Quinn)
Leckenby
(Canada)
Sylvia (Stevens) Hopkins (Perth WA)
Norma (Stevens) Thompson (New Zealand)
Julia (Tingay)
Moolenschot (South Africa)
Nora Sun (China)
Terence & Jan Peters (Canada)
Helen (Kim) Lew (USA)
Gillian (Aldington) & Paul Wierdon
(USA)
Sheila (Brice) & Fletch Bolsover (USA)
We have also heard from the following that they hope to attend although
we have not as yet received their registration forms :
Norman Hope, Roy Tjioe, Shellie (Hauseman) Hagerman, Jack
McIlravey, Adam McIlravey,
Tony Williams, Ann Colling, David Lucas, Gopal Lalchandani, Julio
Sequeira, Skip & Kathleen Heinecke, Johnnie Monteiro, Cherry (Gardiner)
Clark, Helen (Feldman) & Mike Dalton, Mary (Gillett) Farrell, Wilma
(Watson) Loveday, Hilda (Richards) & Bob McKinnon, Mrs. Anne-Marie
Lee, Mrs. Hilda Hale
Have you sent in your Registration forms and deposits yet?
If you haven’t, we would appreciate it if you could do so as soon
as possible. We need to carefully plan everything well in advance
and it would be extremely helpful to us if we could have an early idea
of expected numbers. Keep in mind that restaurants have limited seating
as do tour coaches so it is very much first in first served.
It has been suggested we did not make it clear in the first newsletter why we require a deposit of A$10 per person for each event. As in most things now days, a deposit is required to reserve a space and our reunion is no different. The deposits guarantee your place at events until the full amount is received from you. However, should you prefer to initially pay for all events in full rather than pay the deposits now and remainder later, please feel free to do so.
Date for final payment in full for
all events
30th November 2000
Please help us to make
The Ultimate KGV Reunion
Down-Under 2001
a great success by signing-up now.
We guarantee you an unforgettable experience in a wonderful
country.
As mentioned in the first newsletter, we have negotiated extremely good rates at two great hotels - the Rydges Wentworth Hotel in Sydney CBD and The Phoenician Resort at Broadbeach on the Gold Coast. Both hotels are centrally located to tourist sights, restaurants and shops.
Although it would be great to have everyone stay at the same hotel, there may be some of you who would prefer to stay elsewhere - at a larger/smaller/cheaper/different hotel. There are numerous hotels in/around the Sydney CBD and on the Gold Coast which your travel agents will be able to help you with, however, should you have any queries regarding accommodation please feel free to ask us.

Sydney Harbour Bridge Climb
We have not included the Sydney Harbour Bridge Climb as one of the activities in our programme but highly recommend it to those of you who are not afraid of heights. The climb is very popular with both tourists and locals and booking is essential.
You can book on the Internet http://www.bridgeclimb.com.au
or
by email to admin@bridgeclimb.com
or
Tel +61 2 9252 0077 or
Fax +61 2 9240 1122.
You can also book when you arrive in Sydney, Tel 02 9252 0077, as last minute space is often available although you may not be able to get the exact time of day you would like.
Climbs operate daily starting off at 10-minute intervals from 7.45am
on weekends and 8.05am on weekdays with the last climb dependant upon sunset.
However, you must allow 2+hours for the briefing and climb. They
operate in all weather conditions except during electrical storms.
There appears to be some confusion regarding Coolangatta Airport.
Its official name is the
Gold Coast Airport
and it is situated at Coolangatta.
It is a domestic airport. Those of you who would like to return home
on international flights after the Gold Coast section of the reunion, could
do so from Brisbane international airport which is at least one hour
by coach from The Phoenician.
Correction to Sydney Registration form sent out with first newsletter
Deposit for Sydney hotel should read
“2 nights” and not “2 days”
It has been suggested we try and compile a Where Are They Now/What Have They Been Doing booklet of all those who plan to attend the reunion. (Or perhaps we will put it on a web site instead.) At the moment it is just an idea and very much in the talking/thinking stage and may not eventuate. Quite a lot of work would be involved in compiling such a booklet and if we decide to go ahead with it we would need full participation from everyone. How would you feel about divulging information about yourself and what you have been doing since leaving KGV? We would probably also like Then and Now photos to go with the info. Send your thoughts on this idea to Maunie Kwok <maunie@zeta.org.au>
Can we help you?
Do you have any questions? Need any information. Some of our
committee members are involved in the travel business so may be able to
assist you with travel queries. Just ask.
Following is a great reunion souvenir idea Phil Rosenberg, our Gold Coast rep, has come up with, so read on ………
Phil would like to put together a colour photo- montage of everyone attending the reunion which will be handed out at one of the reunion functions. It would be a wonderful reminder of a special time spent with friends both old and new.
What Phil would like you to do is mail a head and shoulders colour
passport size photo of yourself to him at the address below. Clearly
write your name on both the front and back of the photo. ‘Girls’ - you
may wish to include both your maiden and married names.

In our first newsletter we told you about two of the day tours on the Sydney programme and now here’s something about three great tours on the Gold Coast programme.
The Ultimate Water & Mountain Tour on 12th March is a full relaxed
day that will give you an overview of the Gold Coast. The day starts
with a two-hour broadwater and canal cruise to view some expensive and
impressive waterfront real estate whilst sipping complementary coffee or
tea complete with delicious snacks. We will then travel by coach
through scenic hinterland and up to mountain rainforests where we will
visit multi-award winning O’Reilly’s for a lunch you will never forget.
The views are magnificent and cheeky birds will try, and often succeed,
to steal your food. Also experience Australia’s longest tree top
walk before heading slowly back to the hotel for forty winks. Finish
off this relaxed introduction to the Gold Coast with an impressive seafood
buffet.
What’s your idea of a perfect lunch?
Is it relaxing on the beach, warm sunny weather, magnificent views,
surrounded by friends in a café that serves an enticing selection
of cosmopolitan food at reasonable prices? Maybe you have spent the
morning walking amongst kangaroos counting how many mothers have baby Joeys
in their pouches and are now admiring photos of yourself cuddling a koala.
Or perhaps you are still talking about the colourful wild parrots and their
feeding frenzy you just witnessed. Well, dreams do come true but
only if you reserve your place on the Gold Coast Perfect Day Tour to Currumbin
Sanctuary and the Mermaid Café on 13th March.
There is also a visit to a wildlife sanctuary on the Sydney programme
as part of the Northern Beaches tour but it is quite different to the one
at Currumbin. Only at the latter will you see beautiful wild parrots
arrive en masse at feeding time. Both tours are certainly worth taking
for different reasons.
Charter boat cruise & BBQ lunch 16th March starts from Redland
Bay and gently meanders around a selection of the 365 islands in the calm
waters of Moreton Bay. The fauna and flora will be complemented by
an informative and entertaining commentary from our experienced skipper.
We will stop at one of the island beaches for a BBQ where there will be
an opportunity for swimming, so bring your swimsuit and a towel.
This exclusive eco-tour will long be cherished and remembered.
You have to be here to enjoy these tours so please register ASAP
