 Caesarea, May 8th 2001

 Dear Friends;

 We are delighted to announce that on Saturday, 21.04.2001, at 08.23 A.M.,
 SOLAR, a lovely baby daughter has joined our small family.
 Solar & mother Orit feel wonderful, as does her sister Luar.  Dad Doron,
 that this time had gathered courage to accompany, the miraculous expedition
 of a tender, innocent baby, taking a brave head jump into the Pool of Life,
 totally unaware of it's depth... is still bewildered.
 Nevertheless, it did not take too long for SOLAR to receive a reminder of
 the realities of life in the Middle East. Upon checking out of the Tel  Aviv
 Maternity Ward, our brave baby was immediately and duly equipped with a full
 "Anti Biological & Chemical Warfare Kit", packed in a dark blue
 plastic box. While her puzzled parents were trying to asses the meaning of
 this subtle message, Solar suggested that, perhaps, she could, in the
 meantime, use the Kit to play "E.T." with her friends.  If only the Kit
 could be redesigned by "Disney" or, why not, by Steven Spielberg's Dream
 Factory...
 To  our wonderful friends, who answering our specific request, have proposed
 a multitude of highly creative names for the newborn, we thank from the
 bottom of our hearts and would like to offer a short explanation of our
 choice:-
 SOLAR was conceived during the Astrological reign of the House of the Sun,
 precisely on July 31, 2000  in sunny Madrid. SOLAR signifies, as we all
 know, all that is concerned or determined by the Sun :-  The light, the
 warmth, the energy. The great new CD by Elba Ramalho, filled with exploding
 energy, which I have just brought back from Brasil is very appropriately
 denominated:- SOLAR. In Portuguese and Spanish, SOLAR means also a spacious
 big Ancestral Mansion and a family seat, surrounded by lots of land to
 attract solar light, warmth & energy. Figuratively
 SOLAR means:- Family Lineage, or in other words:- the Tree of Life !
 As LUAR is so happy and proud of her name inspired by the moon, we thought
 that SOLAR -  illuminated by the sun- would be an ideal addition to our "astral" family.
 We hope you and Solar will like our choice as well.
We are so happy to hear that you have had a super successful Reunion down yonder which we regretted  missing. Though some of you may recall that while we visited you Australia during
June-July 1996 (enjoying the KGVers` extraordinary hospitality), we actually encouraged you to hold this dear event. We believe, that as explained above, this time our family might just have a
reasonable excuse for our absence. After all, at my "advanced age" it takes a real KGVer to do it... Kindly also note the change of our e-mail & address. We do not promise that these are the last changes, neither in our family size, nor its location, as life is full of wonderful surprises...

I wish I could have been with you and the gang in Sydney & the second part
of the reunion, the Gold Coast.
I'll just have to settle for email accounts and photos from your site.  I
know my sister Laara (Lynne Baldwin) will have enjoyed herself.

The planning and organizing that your committee has done appears to be the
best.  Congratulations to all.

Frank Ribeiro & I recently spent a long weekend together here in San Diego
when he and his wife Elaine came down from Northern California in their 30'
motor home.  We had a lot of fun reminiscing about HK & KGV in the '50's
and did some running on the local trails.

I enjoyed seeing Brian Eastman's infectious grin in the committee
photo.  I'm sorry he's not on line but do say hi to him for me.  We had a
lot of fun on the swim team and also tearing around on his Triumph
motorcycle. Later, his TR-4 was the vehicle of choice.

Attached is a 1999 photo of me and my coach, Joaquim Cruz, after winning
the 1-mile road race national championship.

Greetings Rod,
Simeon forwarded your correspondence and pictures of the recent and previous reunions to me and I truly enjoyed seeing them. I wish Elaine and I were able to attend the reunion in Australia but we had taken a year off to see the U.S. in our motor home. It was a great adventure and we saw some wonderful places and met real friendly people. We "kinda" lost touch with most of the attendees we met at the Las Vegas reunion because of our travels but we are now settled again. We live in the Sierra Nevada foothills on the way to Lake Tahoe. Please include us on your mailing list so that we can continue to enjoy the letters and pictures from the Australian reunion.
